Description
Now hitting the auction block is a 1999 Ford Saleen Explorer XP8. The SUV has been verified with Saleen Inc as being authentic. It is 1 of approx 119 ever made. It is a 1 of 1 with the options, 1 of 43 made in 1999. The MSRP on this was $44,470 and I have a copy of the window sticker. It currently has 43,165 original miles. Clean carfax and never been smoked in. I am the second owner and have had it a little more than 2 years. I have driven it approximately 2000 miles since i have had it. If you are still reading, you probably already know about these vehilces and how rare they are. It is Oxford White with Medium Graphite (Grey) Leather Interior. It comes with a Ford 302 (5 liter) motor and a 4 speed automatic transmission and a 3.73 limited slip rear end. It is an AWD model with 4 wheel disc brakes. It has the Racecraft suspension (larger sway bars, lowered with N2 shocks) that made Saleen famous. These also came with an K & N airfilter and Borla exhaust from Saleen. The wheels are 20" chrome Saleen Wheels with Dunlop 275-35ZR-20 tires. The wheel and tires were put on right before I bought it and have not scratches at all. Saleen recalled the 18" speedline wheels these origianlly came with due to crasking hubs. The wheels were designed for the lighter Mustangs and when they used them on the heavier SUV's, there were some problems. This was done at the Saleen facility in Troy, MI. The privious owner also stated the brakes were done at the same time as well as a tune up. I just had the oil changed and transmission serived about 5 miles ago at the local Ford dealer. Other options form Saleen were the CoCo floormats, Saleen pedals, Saleen rear wing and Saleen Gauges. They also used alot of Carbon Fiber. Many of the ones I have seen have some but not all the carbon this one has. This one has everything I have seen to exist on any other XP8 out there. It has the steering wheel trim, Door lock / window control trim, mirror covers, dash trim and the overhead console trim. Best of all, it has the Saleen Carbon Fiber hood, good luck finding another one of these! The only option I know of that this one does not have is the Saleen leather seats. As you can see, there was some minor customizing that was also done. Nothing that can not be easily returned to stock. The audio/visual system was state of the art in 1999 and still holds up pretty well a decade later. Alpine In Dash CD/Mobile Multi Media Station IVA-C800 with 6.5 inch pop up screen, Alpine In Dash DVD DVA-5205, Alpine 6 disc changer in console CHA-5624, Alpine Dolby Digital Sound Processor PXA-H510. It has 3 Alpine amps pushing 4 - 12" Polk Momo subs and Boston acoustic door speakers. There is alot of dynamat in this vehicle which makes everything sound great. It also has a Viper 791XV alarm with remote start and LCD transmitter. Lastly, there are a set of PIAA driving lights that are recessed into the front bumper, they can be easilty remoted and no holes were drilled. A couple items to mention, there does seem to be a slow drain on the battery if it sits for weeks without being driven, there are several small cracks in the rear bumper cover which is super common with these (I can get more pictures if needed), the window tint has a few sratches and a chip or two and should be replaced and the DVD screen sometimes needs a little help when being raised, again very common with this model. These are little things but I am really picky and want to disclose everything I know about. Please feel free to ask any questions. I believe I have given a very honest assessment of the vehicle. It does have 43,000 miles on it so it has been driven and shows as such. It is not a trailer queen and is not perfect but is in good shape and has been pretty well taken care of.
